Beautiful Oops

For this assignment , we were handed a piece of paper with black spots on it, that looked as if they were dripped onto the otherwise blank sheet of paper. We were told to use our imagination to transform these drips into something beautiful. I decided to use sharpie and a pink colored pencil to create a cherry blossom tree. I used the left side of the drip as the new left side of the tree, and just followed the other lines to complete the rest of the figure. When I thought I was done, I took a step back to see the big picture. It was at that moment that I realized that I needed to add more cherry blossoms to make the image really pop off of the page. I've always loved the theme of this type of tree. I like how when on paper, there is a dark shadow that is producing a bright and beautiful pink blossom which eventually turns into a flower. This relates to my life because when I was younger, I used to have a blanket with a beautiful cherry blossom tree on it. Since then, I've always thought of the tree as the most beautiful of all, just because of the special place it holds in my heart. If I could revise this piece in the future, I would be to add some pink blossoms falling to, or on the ground already. By doing this, I could add some movement into my piece.
