For this project, we were instructed to create a portfolio titled, "Digital Composition". This consisted of 18 photos that fell under the techniques of photography, and that I took specifically for this project. In the first column, I have the original image. In the second row, I have the edited/altered photo with the edits listed under the image. I applied my skills learned in the classroom, to my surroundings in real life. When I saw a scene that looked like it would fit into one of the categories, I snapped a picture. Art is everywhere we look. Wether it's a bird flying past you as you gaze out over the ocean on a winter walk, a flower sitting on your kitchen counter, or the array of old books from your grandmother. Art is everywhere you look, you just need to look at life in a certain mind set. The elements of art are the following: line, shape, value, color, form, space and texture. The principals of design are pattern, contrast, emphasis, balance, scale, harmony, and rhythm/movement. I had many of these elements and principals when taking these photos. For example, lines are used in the leading lines photograph. Also, when I edited the photos, I added color, contrast, and harmony. In each of these photos, you can find one of the elements of art or the principals of design used. These elements and principals can completely make or break any piece of art. Photo, drawing, painting, or water color. When taking these images, I had all 18 of the composition rules and techniques of photography in mind. I did not let my personal opinion of the photo interfere with it. I let the rules of photography take over the image, rather than my mind. When I saw a photo that would fall under one of these categories, I snapped a shot. I think that the hardest image to capture, was the low key lighting shot. Since the shutter speed was not cooperating, I was very close to giving up. However, this was when Mr. Andreson instructed me to use a tripod so that the camera would not shake, which causes light. Therefore, one of the most valuable tools used in this project, was the tripod. Also, the subjects of these photos were very critical to the project as well! Without the people, birds, basketballs, flowers, fires, tea, trees, and more, the photos would be incredibly bland. The subjects create the photo. If I could change one thing about these photos is some of the edits I made. I believe that on a few of the photos, I edited them so that they were too dark. They should be lightened a bit.
