For this image representing identity, or the lack thereof, I knew from the beginning that I wanted to do a portrait print that portrayed the idea of the lack of identity. Thus explaining why my image is a black a white portrait. The white being the positive space, and the black being the negative. To create this image, I simply erased the face using photoshop and converted the image to black and white. I then inverted it, printed it onto transparencies, and exposed it in the dark room at an f8 aperature for 6 seconds. Elements and principles used include line, shape, color, space, texture, contrast, emphasis, and movement. Composition rules and techniques used include sharp focus, silhouette lighting, low key lighting, and framing. I didn't do much to change or revise this image, other than going back in the erasing process and perfecting the lines so that the image would feature sharp focus. The meaning behind this image is meant to relate to my concentration of societal issues and gun control. In regards to this project, it can be hard in this world today for some people to have an identity when they are being shot dead in the hallways of their own school. As represented by the unidentifiable silhouette, covered in splatters of blood (or red paint) . This project relates to my life because in the process of trying to find my true identity, I am burdened by the fear of a shooting occurring in my school or anywhere else in my everyday life. If I could make this image stronger, I would use the dodge and burn technique to make the face just a bit lighter instead of just white to symbolize the fading of lives.
