Scratchboard

For this art project, we were given a scratch board, and asked to find an image of a person, animal or object, and put it into black and white. We then printed it out, and started to trace it onto the scratchboard. However, this was a very different project because instead of applying dark to a light paper, when we applied pressure, we turned the dark paper white. By using different scratching techniques, you could control the amount of white that is applied to the photo plane. If it was a dark area, I would leave the space black. If it was grey, I wouldn't scratch off too much. If it gradually got darker, I would apply many lines, then fewer lines to make a fade effect. I decided to do a series of two pieces because I finished the first one very quickly, so I wanted to make a second one that matched the first. However, I personally like the first one better. If I could do the second on over again, I would make the lines skinner to create a softer effect. Overall, I found this project rather challenging, yet entertaining.
