The subject of this image is the face of a young school boy wearing an American flag t-shirt. His face is crossed out to represent the fact that children are targeted by gun violence in schools. He is surrounded by newspaper cuttings of words that relate to gun violence in the United States. The image was made by using the typical double transparency and develop method. It includes line, shape, value, texture, and space. As well as principals of balance, contrast, and unity. Composition rules and techniques showcased in this image include formal balance, sharp focus, and low key lighting which I think really adds to the prompt of societal issues. For a while, my photo was very dark. In order to fix this problem, I turned down the aperture, changed the filter to 00, and developed the paper for under a minute. The meaning behind this image is to bring attention to the prevalent topic of gun violence in our society today which I feel very strongly about. If I could've done something better on this print, I would made sure my borders were more solid. Some light leaked through, making it a bit uneven and spotty.
