Movement

For this assignment, we were asked to create a print of a photo representing movement. For this, I decided to take a series of pictures of moving cars on a highway, print them out on inverted transparencies, overlay them, and expose them. For a 4 second exposure at an f8 aperture, I had the transparencies laid over each other on top of the light paper. By doing this, I created a blurry sense which is commonly associated with movement in photography. Elements and principles included in this image are line, shape, value, space, texture, emphasis, unity, and balance.

Composition rules and techniques used in this image are leading lines, soft focus, and framing. In order to change this image for the better, I played with different filters, exposure times, apertures, and developing time in order to get the desired amount of value and light in the final print.

This photo vaguely relates to my concentration of societal issues regarding the subtopic of driving while under the influence. The cars fading away represent the loss of a life while drunk driving. If I could make this image stronger, I would add more layers of more images in the series so that they highway would appear to be more busy.
