What are tailgates?

A tailgate is when a someone follows a member into the gym without swiping their own tag.
Why do people tailgate?

• The obvious, the follower isn't a member but wants to come in free of charge

• The follower may be a member but forgot their tag

• The follower is a member and has lost their tag completely and is avoiding purchasing a new one

• The follower recently joined at another AF but is still within their first 30 days before they get access to the entire network

• When a new member joins, they get a trial offer to give to a friend. Sometimes the member believes this means they can just let a friend in with them

What Happens when a member allows a Tailgate?

First Offence SMS and EMAIL

As there are a few possibilities some deliberate and some completely innocent, we always need to assume good intensions for the members first offence.

We start off with a warning (if the member is a member of another AF location email the other location with a photo attached and ask them to warn the member for you).

All we need to do is send the member a nice SMS letting them know the time and date of the tailgate, that everyone must swipe in every time even if the tailgater was a member and to make sure their friend swipes in next time otherwise a fine of $60 will be charged, along with an attached photo. 

Make sure you leave the details of the correspondence in the members notes for next time. 

Second Offence SMS and EMAIL

If there is a second offence, and you are positive it was deliberate. It's time to step it up a notch and issue a fee. Send the same friendly SMS and EMAIL with a photo however this time you will include the fee of $60 that you will be charging.
