When faced with an event that we want to see have a different or positive outcome, we need to begin by asking ourselves, where are we located?
You are the only person who can change your mindset; so, are you Above the Line? Or perhaps you have been Below the line?
YOU HAVE A SHIP AND CAN STEER IT WITH AN OAR,
YOU HAVE A BED AND YOU CAN LAY IN IT.
If we are above the line, we possess the mindset to steer our ship to shore and get where we need to be.
If we are below the line, we have made the bed we are now in. We can still get to the shore, however we will not be able to get there if we don't get out of this mind frame.
So where do you and your Team Sit?
Sometimes we get into a rutt. We are all human it happens. Perhaps there are elements outside of work that are bringing us or our team members down, or it might just be a time when we feel things just are not working for us.
When this happens it is really important to stomp out the "we are a victim" mindset before it spreads across our entire team. The quickest way to do this is to use the "Above or Below the Line" Method.
Below the Line; Also know as the "Victim" mentality. Below the line comments include:
Blame,
Excuses or
Denial.
For example:
"I saw that machine was dirty but i was just to busy with something else"
"I just don't have enough prospects to hit my sales target"
"Yeah i saw the gym is dirty but its the cleaners responsibility not mine".
These comments have no solution and offer us no remedy. They simply are just focusing on a problem.
Above the line; Also Know as the "Victor" mentality.
Above the line comments include
Ownership
Accountability
Responsibility.
For Example;
"I saw that machine was dirty however i was busy with a prospect at that moment so i let the member know i would clean it as soon as i was done. After i finished with the prospect i went over and cleaned the machine then let the complaining member know it was done"
"I dont have enough prospect to hit my sales target so this week i am going to run a referral game every night and do outreach every day to get more"
"The gym is dirty so the cleaner must be struggling, i spoke with them and they told me that there was a mess in the bathroom that took longer to clean than they expected today. So i offered to mop the front foyer for them so that there was 1 task less for them today, ensuring they could put the focus into the areas that needed it today"
Did you complete the booklet yet? now we can move onto radical candor!
