Taking part in the LumenAid project has become one of the most meaningful CAS experiences we have had because it helped turn an idea about making a positive contribution to the wider community into action. Initially, raising funds for the LumenAid project, which provides solar-powered lighting solutions to communities in need, seemed straightforward, especially at the start. We planned to raise funds through music performances and use them to purchase solar-powered lighting solutions for communities in need. However, after we began planning events and visiting the areas we hoped to support, we quickly realized just how significant the energy access problem is in this region.
Some of the Border Patrol Police Schools we visited are located in very remote areas, and many lack reliable access to electricity. One of the most important lessons we learned from this experience was the value of teamwork in making a positive contribution to the wider community. Archive 26, the band that we are part of, organized a concert to raise funds for the LumenAid project, which provides lighting solutions to communities affected by disasters and energy poverty. Each member had a responsibility, ranging from sound management to communications, and we had to work together to make the concert successful.
Through this experience, we developed our organizational skills, especially in event planning, and gained a deeper appreciation for teamwork in community service. We also learned that creative skills, such as music, can be highly effective in making a positive contribution to the wider community, especially when connected to a broader social cause. The field trips to Kanchanaburi and the Thai-Myanmar border were among the most impactful moments of the project. Seeing the schools and communities where the aid would be delivered helped us better understand the challenges faced by people living in areas with limited infrastructure.
Helping communities by distributing solar-powered lighting solutions and installing solar systems has shown us how technology can improve the quality of life. At the same time, we learned the importance of sustainability and responsibility in acts of service. It is not enough to simply provide aid; it must be effective enough to support communities in the long term.
In retrospect, the LumenAid project helped us become more service-oriented individuals. What started as a fundraising performance grew into a much larger and more meaningful endeavor.
