Before that, In September 2023, I took part in planning a fundraiser to support a service field trip to The Man Who Rescues Dogs, a rescue center in Chonburi, and donate to the owners. On October 22, 2023, we donated a lot of money to the rescue center, where we helped the staff with a helpful volunteer activity painting where the stray dogs live in pastel colors to attract people visiting the rescue center.
The fundraiser was announced late, and we needed more time to prepare thoroughly. Additionally, it involved lots of communication, which was problematic due to how many people shouted out ideas. To improve this, I proposed a system including a Google Form asking what baked goods the team would like to bring, how many items would be needed, and prices. After submission, they would be checked and approved.
I admit I did not feel what I wanted emotionally for the activity. Although it was memorable, the purpose of this trip was to donate the money raised in the fundraiser to the organizer before doing laborious work, such as painting the living quarters and assisting the dogs in their daily exercise routine. The experience raised some questions for me. Why did we need to paint the dog shelters? Was it to create a more welcoming environment for the canines, the people working at the rescue center, and volunteers like us, or was it for anyone in general?
Still, this CAS experience taught me many important lessons regarding planning and the actual trip. With the fundraiser, I demonstrated how to collaborate with others and initiate plans.
