I performed a singing performance at an elderly home called Ban Bang Khae as a direct service activity where I sang Cantopop and Mandopop songs from the 1980s and 90s. I created my own list of songs that I was going to sing and planned what I wanted to do during the event.
I hoped for my singing to not solely bring joy and excitement to the audience, but also to provide them the chance to reminisce about the past through Cantopop songs from the golden years, which were once popular in Thailand. I hoped for them to realize that classic Cantopop songs are timeless.
The place where this experience took place lacked enough speakers, and I did not have a support crew. As a result, when I was performing, there were times when I was unable to hear my own voice as loudly as I would have preferred. Even though this caused me to be slightly uneasy, I was motivated by my dedication and did not perceive it as a difficult challenge.
Throughout this experience, my mind was filled with lots of inspirational messages that I wanted to express to convey my happiness. However, I realized that I was unable to successfully communicate with the audience due to a linguistic barrier. I was uncertain of how to translate my thoughts into Thai so that I could share them aloud, as I was more accustomed to Cantonese entertainment.
To adapt to the situation, I could merely utter a couple of basic phrases to enhance my connection with the audience. I noticed that everyone was lively and engaged, leading to me feeling extremely satisfied.
Overall, this service activity was one of the most wonderful experiences that I have ever had. I seldom have chances to sing for people, as it is challenging to find target audiences in this community. However, partnering with this organization offered me the opportunity to sing many of the songs I had been looking forward to performing to audiences who are open-minded and possess an interest in them.
I felt incredibly content, and I learned to plan step by step in order to carry out this activity. I hope to have the opportunity to engage in this kind of performance again in the future.
