This CAS experience is Varsity Volleyball and lasted three months in total. We played around five friendly games throughout the season and attended the SEASAC Championship at NIST International School around the beginning of November. Our coaches were Mr. Komson and Mr. Kom, who worked hard with us the whole season and helped me develop my skills and techniques. This is my second year playing on the varsity volleyball team, and I have risen from a bench player last year in grade 10 to a starter in grade 11, playing in the opposite position. I improved the most on my spiking arm swing and bumping abilities, which were critical in volleyball since they are the fundamentals of attacking and defending.
Varsity volleyball has allowed me to work on my cooperation and communication skills, as volleyball is a sport that requires the team to move simultaneously every round. As soon as the ball is served, the whole team needs to communicate to know where every player is currently on the court so the setter can choose who to set to and initiate a spike that aims to earn a point for the team. This process requires efficient teamwork and, therefore, challenges and helps me develop my teamwork skills and ability to cooperate with others toward a common goal.
I will be participating in this CAS, Varsity Volleyball, next year as well, and my priority is to aim to bring the team back to division one championships as we dropped division this year due to bad performance and lack of competitiveness. Some main improvements and areas where I could improve as a team member are my personal volleyball skills and my ability to gather the team and encourage everyone to support each other. Attending more practices and engaging in activities related to volleyball apart from school training after school will allow me to achieve this, and communicating with my teammates in the appropriate and supportive manner would allow the team to bond well as a whole and everyone to try their best to win all the games we will be playing.
Overall, this CAS has benefitted me in aspects related to cooperation and interactions with others by participating in this sports team.
