I’m a member of the Father Ray Committee, which mainly hosts activities to help the orphans in Father Ray Children’s Village in Pattaya. During meetings, I share ideas and suggestions for the children in Father Ray Children's Village Pattaya. I helped organize exciting activities and plan how we would spend time with the children when bringing them gifts bought from our school fundraising. Our committee aims to support the children with education in which we provide study materials and spend time with them with some activities prepared.
When participating in this committee, I realized that some groups still suffer and need our attention. Some are the same age as us or even younger. I felt pleased when I realized I could contribute to helping them. As a member, I hope my contribution helps the children feel the warmth of our community. I also hope to help them overcome the pain from their past experiences and provide them with educational materials to become better versions of themselves.
It is my pleasure to be a member of this committee, where, as a high schooler, I took on more mature roles where I learned new ways to organize and plan things step by step. Each time I helped, I realized there would be fewer people in this situation, and more people could have an everyday life and survive. I value getting involved in this type of organization and knowing where and how to start helping people in need.
Overall, our efforts will have a lasting impact because even after we graduate, new members will join the committee and continue doing good work in their ways. This committee inspired me in different ways by giving me a better awareness of and understanding of people in our society. From this experience, I can also apply the strategies I learned to other service-learning activities. For instance, if I had a chance, I would like to teach the children Mandarin. Learning a new language can be beneficial when they step out of their comfort zone, and Mandarin is also an internationally well-known language. I am more motivated to join another meaningful service-learning trip and contribute more to the education part. Joining another service-learning club or committee would also be a new opportunity to learn from new experiences.
