Basketball has always been a huge part of my life. I started playing basketball when I was 10 years old and loved playing it ever since; The satisfaction when you swish a shot, the pure joy and excitement of winning, and even the devastation that comes after a loss. All of these emotions
are what make basketball so fun to me. I saw how excited and passionate everyone was during last year’s SEASAC, which motivated me to want to compete even more. This year, the varsity basketball team traveled to Tanglin Trust School in Singapore to compete for SEASAC. This experience helped me grow both as a player and as a person. I recognized the benefits of working collaboratively with my teammates.
As a guard, I am usually the smallest player on the court, and because of this, I had to adapt my skills to compete with the bigger players. As the basketball season went by, I developed different skills - handling, agility, defense, and outside shooting. Although earlier in the season, I struggled to stay on the court for a long time due to poor stamina, I worked hard to improve those weaknesses throughout the season. Our season started slow; we lost our first couple of games, but we slowly adjusted ourselves to compete in different matches. However, despite our losses, we got better after each game. The losses only motivated us to do better.
We worked hard on our training to improve our game. Going into SEASAC, we knew we were the underdogs; however, even though we knew this, no one believed that we wouldn't win. We played every game with everything we had and eventually, we won. Everyone was excited. Our hard work paid off. Although at the end of the season, we were unable to lift any trophies, I had the most fun I have had in a long time, and am very grateful to my teammates for the experience!
