During the last days of November, a few other students from RIS and I began planning a trip to the local community school in Loei. To end the school year, we prepared carnival games and activities and rehearsed some dances for the students there. This is quite a hurdle for all of us as the planning process involved exchanging many ideas, making it challenging to settle on a single plan due to the need for better communication in the group.
Arriving at Loei wasn’t tricky, but getting ready and setting everything up quickly was. We had to set up carnival booths and games while keeping the spirits up high, which meant we had to be extroverted and outgoing. We needed to overcome this obstacle because it required us to step out of our comfort zone. However, this was an advantage because my strength is communicating with others without issues.
On the second day, we had to put artificial grass on concrete to create a football pitch for the ES students. While there were some difficulties helping each other initially, we managed to pull through and learn some excellent communication and collaboration skills. It was a successful process as we all learned that teamwork is key for accomplishing a goal. Additionally, we had a great bonding experience during the dance, and I will never forget that day.
Leaving Loei was a shame, but we learned many new skills while acknowledging our weaknesses. I hope to return to Loei and bring some new ideas to the table. One idea in mind is teaching them how to use technology, which connects to the club I’m currently in, Contributech.
