Around the time we all chose the IB Diploma, we gathered to form a band for the Class of 2024. Initially, this was from seeing that our grade spirit was low and we didn’t have a band yet. We all saw that this could also act as our CAS project, which combined our passion for music with the IB curriculum. The CAS project should be based on pure curiosity and not something forced. The purpose was to unite the Class of 2024 and have something creative, positive, and musical to represent the grade.
We organized time for practice. However, most practices are individual due to scheduling conflicts and personal matters. Whenever there was an upcoming event, we tried to fit more than one group practice to better prepare for the performance. We found that in the first few performances, the sound of the instruments was louder than the vocals, which threw off the balance of the whole show. We eventually fixed this minor issue, and each time, it made us sound more cohesive and even better than before.
Rewind, our CAS project, really shows who we are as people. It has been a challenge for all of us, but at the same time, it is what we love to do. Along with academics, sports extracurriculars, executive responsibilities, and social life, Rewind has given us a holistic life where it’s not purely academics or sunshine. It’s the challenges in organization, balancing, communication, and support.
This project has been ongoing for almost two years, and the band has performed at multiple events. It all started with our debut at the 2022 Fun Fair, and our most recent performance in 2024 was during International Women's Day at the end of the third quarter. That was our concluding performance for CAS. However, we’ll continue on this project until the end of the school year because we are passionate about being a part of Rewind. It’s not just about the creativity but the people we perform with and how it connects the school community.
