The Home4animals foundation is an animal shelter located near Bangkok, Thailand. They house hundreds of stray dogs and cats who have been rescued, including those with disabilities and those who require special care. The foundation accepts donations of pet food, as well as cleaning supplies for cleaning facilities, so the objective of our CAS project was to raise money for the foundation, as well as go on a donation trip to help take care of the animals there.
Our fundraising was done across five days of sales in the high school breezeway. We chose to sell bingfen, a traditional Chinese dessert consisting of jelly, syrup, and many toppings. We specifically chose bingfen because it could be made in bulk, and because selling it was also a way to bring awareness to Chinese culture. For all of us, it was our first time preparing this dessert, so we had to do testing beforehand. Since we were situated in the Seelos dorm, we chose to give samples to dorm students to try!
As a whole, we sold 6,000 baht of bingfen, and we used that money to buy: 21 kilograms of canned dog food, 80 pouches of wet cat food, mosquito repellent for animals, and cleaning supplies.
Shortly after the items arrived, we planned a visit to donate these items to the Home4animals foundation on November 3rd, 2024. During our visit, we were able to assist in feeding the disabled dogs in the foundation, as well as some of the cats housed there. The entire experience was very rewarding, as we were able to help within our capabilities to improve the quality of life for the hundreds of animals at the shelter, making it easier for the professionals to keep running the foundation so these animal lives could continue to be protected and well cared for.
Our only regret is that we didn’t spend more time fundraising, as we could have donated even more items to not only the Home4animals foundation, but other animal shelters across Bangkok. Overall, this CAS project has raised our awareness, as well as the community’s, towards caretaking of stray animals, and given us a better sense of wellbeing that we share with the planet's animals.
