For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with the Silk Road cities across the years, because I wanted to learn more about the evolution of the Silk Road and the growth of cities during important years.
I wanted to create a visualization that would allow users to make connections between the years cities changed in size and population, with important events and history.
In my visualization, the data is represented as different sized circles on the map. the size of the circles depends on the population of that city at that time.
To interact with the visualization, try clicking the screen to change the date and see how the dots move around and grow into different sizes. You can also hover over the dots, to see the population of the city at that time.
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is the mean population of the cities toward the middle of the silk road was higher.
Something I still wonder about is: were there any major historical events that affected the mean populations over time?
