For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with the California Wildfire data. This showed every wildfire from 2013-2019 in California, and showed the date, size, name, area, and more.
I wanted to create a visualization that would allow users to see each fire season, so they can compare and see which season was the worst and best.
In my visualization, the data is represented as circle sizes and colors. The bigger the circle, the bigger the size of that fire was. There is a key on the top right of the project which explains everything.
To interact with the visualization, press the key "s", which will advance the fire season by a year, and eventually reach a point that displays all of the fires at once. There is a marker in the right of the project that tells you what fire season it is in the graph.
One interesting thing I noticed from the visualization was that 2017 and 2018 were the worst fire years, and that the amount of fires each year is growing.
Something I still wonder about is what 2020, 2021, and 2022 would look like on this graph. There have been some huge fires recently, such as the Dixie Fire, and I want to see what it would look like on my current graph.
