For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with a dataset that showed Global Aquaculture Imports and Exports (Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN)). The dataset allowed me to show the profits from 2000-2015 and divide the land into five regions Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Oceania.
I wanted to create a visualization allowing users to visualize the profits from all continents. I was curious to see how the profits increased or decreased from 2000-2015. What caught my attention and caused me to be especially curious was that the dataset split the profits into Crustaceans and Fishes. I was intrigued because the dataset only had 2 categories of food for all of the regions when there is so much more marine life in the ocean.
In my visualization, the data is represented as boxes and values. The regions are colored boxes, each color identifying the region. The values represent the profits made from the food in the ocean and each profit is spilt up for imports and exports.
To interact with the visualization, try clicking your trackpad and it will advance the years. To access the values hover over the boxes. It's really easy. Although don't advance to 2016... The code will end.💀
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is that the text is blue. It's flabbergasting.
Something I still wonder about is what this dataset categorizes fish and crustaceans. I think that if I could change something about this dataset I would be more specific with the type of food. I feel the two categories are too broad.
