For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with a data set about the number of endangered languages in the world and the chances they will completely die out.
I wanted to create a visualization that would allow users to explore and get to know various languages, ranging from those that are vulnerable to extinct ones.
The visualization...
In my visualization, the data is represented as dots on the map based on the latitude and longitude of the countries. The color indicates the level of endangerment of each language, with magenta being extinct, red being critically endangered, peach being severely endangered, light orange being definitely endangered, and yellow being vulnerable.
To interact with the visualization, try hovering over the dots to see the name of the language in English is, then press d and hover over dots for a description to show.
My observations...
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is that there is no data from Norway or Iceland.
Something I still wonder about is who and when were these languages invented/discovered.
