For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with the importation and exportation of different food goods.
I wanted to create a visualization that would allow users to see where each good was exported and imported on a map. On this map, you can zoom in to the exact location and when you hover over each item you can see the coordinates, whether it was imported or exported and the country it is in.
In my visualization, the data is represented as circles. Each circle represents the exact place a certain food was imported or exported.
To interact with the visualization, try to hover your mouse over a circle. Each circle is different so when you hover over each circle you should know that the numbers will be different. When hovering over a circle there will be text that pops up. The text tells you whether the item was imported or exported, the cordinates (Lat and Long), and the land area it was either imported or exported on.
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is that many of the objects that were imported or exported are close together like in a group. Instead of all these data points being separated evenly, there would be 4 points in around the same area. For example, there were no circles in North and South America but there are 4 circles around Netherlands.
Something I still wonder about is why there are two items that got imported and exported in the middle of the pacific ocean. Is there land in that area??
