For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with a data set that shows the endangered languages in the world, where they are spoken, and their degree of endangerment.
I wanted to create a visualization that would allow users to see the degree of endangerment and of the location of each language.
In my visualization, the data is represented as color dots.
To interact with the visualization, hover over the dots for the first one and click the screen for the second.
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is the amount of languages is insane! Also it was difficult to make the project work because some languages were in multiple countries and some countries weren't in the official countries list. (for example, there was no such thing as Russian Federation in the countries list)
Something I still wonder about is how they keep track of who is still alive and who speaks the language. There were many languages with only one speaker left, I wonder how they know that the person still remembers how to speak it or if they are alive at all.
