For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with California wildfire data over the course of multiple years. The data tells us basic data such as location, size, name, time, and much more.
I wanted to create a visualization that would allow users to see where each fire was on a map, represented by dots of different sizes and colors, and would allow users to see basic info about each fire.
In my visualization, the data is represented as multiple dots which each represent a different wildfire in my dataset. The position and size of the dot represent the latitude and longitude along with the size of the fire. Each dot also has a different color, depending on how dangerous the fire was.
To interact with the visualization, try hovering over each fire and zoom in to specific areas to see the exact location.
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is that central California seems to be the most dangerous are in the state.
Something I still wonder about is what this would look like on the scale of the whole world. California is often thought of as the worst place for fires and I would want to see if that holds up.
