For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with a data set that had data about the percentages that made up an economy for many countries. The source for this data set is the Tourism Direct GDP(TDGDP), which combines all types of contributions of tourism to a given country's economy.
I wanted to create a visualization that would allow users to see how much of a percentage of tourism would make up a country's economy. This might show how much the country invests into tourism, like island countries compared to countries not bordering water.
In my visualization, the data is represented as dots on a map of all of the countries with longitude and latitude. The color represents the different amount that tourism makes up an economy.
To interact with the visualization, try hovering over dots to see the percentages and pressing the "/" or "?" button to switch the years.
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is that many islands in tropical areas near North America or South America had quite a high tourism percentage. This showed that many tourists wanted to visit islands and tropical areas.
Something I still wonder about is how the percentages may differ between different regions or continents.
