For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with a data set about the price and amount fish imports and exports of each country. The source of this data is the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations(Fisheries and Agriculture Department.)
I wanted to create a visualization that would allow users to see the markets where most of their fish come from and see how successful each country is with their fishing market.
In my visualization, the data is represented as dots on a map at the center point of each country. Hovering these dots shows the import and export value of that country. The imports are in red, and the exports are in blue.
To interact with the visualization below, try hovering over each dot. this will will make some text pop up about the imports and exports.
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is that land lock countries export a lot less than counties with sea access.
Something I still wonder is, because this data is 7 years old, how much has the data changed?
