For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with a data set on how many people belonged to a certain religion throughout the years. This data is from data.world and includes national, regional, and global religion data.
I wanted to create a visualization that would allow users to see how big religion sizes were compared to each other in the 10 millions.
In my visualization, the data is represented as dots in rows. Each dot in a religion's row represents 10 million people who belong to that religion. For example, 2 dots represents 20 million people in Judaism in the year 1945.
To interact with the visualization, try clicking the screen with your mouse. This switches through the different years represented by the data, which progresses by 5 years each time. You can see the number of dots change with the year and the current year in the corner of the screen.
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is how dominate Christianity is in size and how it compares to the other religions.
Something I still wonder about is why a religion's size would decrease so drastically in one year but then continue to grow.
