For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with the extinct languages data set. The source is UNESCO and The Guardian.
I wanted to create a visualization that would allow users to view the location of extinct languages and the extremity at which they are endangered.
In my visualization, the data is represented as circles around a map for the locations where that language is spoken. The text at the top shows the name of the language.
To interact with the visualization, try pressing the "n" and "b" keys.☂️
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is that there are many extinct languages that people have never heard about before, especially in southeast/central/east asia.
Something I still wonder about is, what would the data look like if more commonly spoken languages were added to the data set?
