In the early morning of Friday, May 20, 1927, Lindbergh took off from Roosevelt Field across the Atlantic Ocean for Paris, France. Lindbergh achieve the first solo trans-atlantic flight and the first non-stop flight between North America and the European mainland. The flight took 33 1/2 hours.
On the same day, five years later, Amelia Earhart set off from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, intending to fly to Paris. After a flight lasting 14 hours, 56 minutes, after having icy conditions and mechanical problems, Earhart landed in a pasture at Culmore, Northern Ireland. She becomes the first woman to make a solo air crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.
