Dixon greeted its first big budget showplace in 1922.

The Dixon Theater was built in the same location as the Dixon Opera House, which burned to the ground in 1903, and after being rebuilt, burned down again in 1920.

The general contractor on the theater was William McAlpine. Because of the previous fires, the owner insisted upon block masonry as the major component of the new building.
