Rockford Municipal Sanitarium/University of Illinois School of Medicine

Construction of the Rockford Municipal Sanitarium began in the summer of 1915 and marked a turning point in the quality of Winnebago County's health care system. The sanitarium was the first publicly funded facility in the state outside of Chicago. F. A. Carpenter was the building's architect and W. D. Reichenbach was the general contractor. The design plans called for the construction of a three story building measuring 39' by 71'.

The aerial view (1965) of the Rockford Municipal Sanitarium, which is now the U of I School of Medicine, displays the renovated infirmary and new wing completed by Holm-Page Company (NIBCA Contractor) in 1950.
