K-9 Corps
On this day in 1942, the United States Army began training dogs for the new War Dog Program - "K-9 Corps."
Dogs were used during WWI, carrying messages in the trenches and giving comfort to the soldiers, but when the war ended, the military abandoned training and using dogs.
With the start of WWII, the military soon started the K-9 Corps and began training the dogs for four specialized programs: sentry dogs , patrol dogs, messenger dogs or mine-detection dogs.
