On this day 1879, in Utica, NY, Frank Woolworth opens his first of many of five-and-dime Woolworth stores.

The picture above is the F. W. Woolworth Store in Rockford, IL. dated 1925.

The store was on the ground floor and basement. Above the store on the second floor was the Arcade Billiard Room.
