Midway Theatre

Midway Theatre, 721 East State Street, one of the largest movie houses (2000 seats) built when it opened in 1918. It was constructed in the Spanish Renaissance style and originally contained not only a movie theater but also four storefronts, twenty apartments on the upper floors, and a basement that contained a bowling alley and recreation area for Camp Grant soldiers during World War I.

It functioned as a movie theater until August 1980 when it was almost destroyed by fire. It was restored afterwards for use as a live entertainment venue.
