Recently demolished, the Clock Tower Inn was Rockford next generation of hotel complexes built in the 60's, after the old "red carpet" hotels which were usually built in the downtown area.
In 1966, Max Liebling and son Alvin, developed the Henrici's Motor Inn (later to be renamed the Clock Tower Inn Resort) containing 120 rooms (each with a color TV), a pool, a lounge with stage and most importantly, easy access to the Northwest Tollway. Completed in 1968, the 1.8 million dollar complex opened to the public. Within three years the first expansion took place, followed by several other phased increases in the hotel's capacity and amenities.
Although not strictly an expansion, the Larson & Darby designed trademark clock was put in place in 1973, signaling the hotel's theme which was further exemplified by the famous Time Museum.
The Clock Tower Inn Resort had been sold three times since 1999, and was closed in 2016.
