On April 11, 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African American player in Major league baseball. Robinson, playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers, took to the field for an exhibition match against the New York Yankees.

On April 15th, he played opening day, when the Dodgers defeated the Boston Braves.
