WARM UP

This warm up is the same for all year levels so if you have siblings you can do your warm up together!

Maybe even get your parents to join in!


This week your Fawkner House Captain, Appu is taking you through your warm up.

MINI LESSON

Marking

  1. Keep your eyes on the ball


  1. Position your body ready to catch the ball and take a mark


  1. Extend your arms and spread your fingers to prepare to either

a) make a basket and "hug" the ball for a chest mark or

b) mark the ball with your hands

LEARNING TASK 1 - Chest Marking

  • Have somebody pass the ball to you (you may throw the ball into the air yourself if you don't have a partner)


  • Remembering the key skills from the mini lesson, extend your arms and take a chest mark

    • Keep your eyes on the ball

    • Position your body ready to catch the ball and take a mark

    • Extend your arms and spread your fingers to prepare to make a basket and "hug" the ball for a chest mark


  • You must perform 10 chest marks before moving on to the next learning task

LEARNING TASK 2 - Marking in the Hands

  • Have somebody pass the ball to you (you may throw the ball into the air yourself if you don't have a partner)


  • Remembering the key skills from the mini lesson, extend your arms and take the mark in your hands (don't use your chest!)

    • Keep your eyes on the ball

    • Position your body ready to catch the ball and take a mark

    • Extend your arms and spread your fingers to prepare to mark the ball using only your hands


  • You must perform 10 marks before moving on to the next learning task

CHALLENGE

  • To further challenge yourself, try running towards the person throwing the ball and mark it whilst you are on the move!

LEARNING TASK 3 - Marking Madness!

  • The aim is to take as many marks as you can in 1 minute!


  • Either have somebody throw the ball to you or throw it up into the air yourself


  • You may use your chest or hands to complete your marks


  • Race the clock and see how many marks you can take!

TERMINOLOGY AND KEY SKILLS



Mark - A mark is a skill in Australian Rules Football where a player cleanly catches (or is deemed to have controlled the ball for sufficient time) a kicked ball that has travelled more than 15 metres without any other player touching it (prior to the player marking the ball) or the ball hitting the ground.
