GWPS school song - I'm Still Standing
Thank you for visiting our Junior Choir page.
This week, I have some new inspiration for you and we are going to continue rehearsing our new song.
As I said, this song has lovely harmony, but will also connect you to learners in Year 1 as they are creating a dance to the song. I hope I will be able to combine your singing, with their actions and create a gorgeous video for us to show the school community!
Happy learning!
Have a watch from 5:00. You will see a choir who has connected with a dance team to make their performance even more entertaining.
THINK
What did they do to make this performance so entertaining?
How did they demonstrate teamwork?
Listen to the song link to the left. There are two versions here - one of the original CD version and another of a choir singing the same song.
Please find the lyrics below and see if you can sing along.
THERE’S A GUM TREE GROWING ON A HILL LYRICS
JUNIOR CHOIR TERM 2, 2020
There’s a gum tree growing on a hill
And a kookaburra sits there, laughing at the sunrise
If the gum tree dies, the kookaburra flies away
There’s a gum tree growing on a hill
And the kangaroo hops there and listens to the sound
And a kookaburra sits there, laughing at the sunrise
If the gum tree dies, the kookaburra flies away
There’s a gum tree growing on a hill
And the snake slides by, looking for his breakfast
And the kangaroo hops there and listens to the sound
And a kookaburra sits there, laughing at the sunrise
If the gum tree dies, the kookaburra flies away
There’s a gum tree growing on a hill
And an eagle sours high, above the leaves
And the snake slides by, looking for his breakfast
And the kangaroo hops there and listens to the sound
And a kookaburra sits there, laughing at the sunrise
If the gum tree dies, the kookaburra flies away
There’s a gum tree growing on a hill
And an emu stands in the beautiful shade
And an eagle sours high, above the leaves
And the snake slides by, looking for his breakfast
And the kangaroo hops there and listens to the sound
And a kookaburra sits there, laughing at the sunrise
If the gum tree dies, the kookaburra flies away
There’s a gum tree growing on a hill
We’ve got to keep it growing and not chop it down
Or the emu won’t stand
Nor the eagle fly
Nor the snakes slide by
Or the kangaroo hop
Or the kookaburra sits there, laughing at the sunrise
If the gum tree dies, the kookaburra flies away
The kookaburra flies away
The kookaburra flies away
In choir, 'harmony' means different notes that are sung at the same time and sound nice to the audience.
Here are some parts to the song that have melodies. See if you can hear how they are different, but work together to sound nice!
Please click on the link to the left - I have made a step-by-step guide to learning the harmony (or different tunes) for the chorus!
I would love to hear a recording of you singing part of the melody or having a go at some of the harmonies! Please send your recording to Melinda.Pattenden@education.vic.gov.au
Happy singing!!
