Position: Moving Helpers and Apartment Set-Up Teams - New Americans Program
Location: Salisbury, NC (In-Person)
Position Description: Moving Helpers and Apartment Set Up Teams support refugee and immigrant families as they transition into new housing. Volunteers can assist with a variety of tasks such as transporting furniture, lifting and carrying household items, cleaning either a newly rented home or the family’s previous residence, or setting up an initial apartment when new clients arrive. By lending a hand during this critical step, Moving Helpers and Apartment Set-Up Teams help create a warm welcome and ease the stress of relocation.
Key Responsabilities: (Could Include 1 or More of the Following)
Assist with moving furniture and household items into new homes
Provide vehicles such as vans or trucks when available to transport belongings
Help clean new rental units or vacated residences as needed
Help set apartments for new arrivals
Work as part of a volunteer team to ensure a smooth and supportive moving process
Offer encouragement and create a welcoming atmosphere for families during the transition
Qualifications:
Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy items (with assistance)
Access to a van or truck is helpful but not required
Team players with a willingness to serve where needed
Flexible, positive, and respectful in cross-cultural interactions
Must complete a background check
Time Commitment:
Short term project for a group or individual
Varies depending on family needs; generally, a one-time service lasting several hours per move.

Position: Cultural Orientation Facilitators - New Americans Program
Location: Salisbury, NC (In-Person)
Position Description: Cultural Orientation Facilitators play an important role in welcoming newly arrived families by helping them understand the essentials of daily life in the United States. Volunteers lead a series of four modules within the family's first 90 days, covering topics such as health, safety, housing, transportation, and community resources. Cultural Orientation Facilitators empower families to feel confident, informed, and supported as they adjust to their new home.
Present 4 orientation modules on practical topics to families within their first 90 days in the U.S.
Answer questions and provide guidance in a supportive, patient manner
Provide education on health tips, medication usage, and navigating pharmacies or clinics
Encourage confidence and independence as families adjust to a new culture
Volunteers receive training in LSC volunteer practices and procedures and cultural awareness.
For this volunteer opportunity, we also provide training material, module scripts, and videos.
Qualifications:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills Comfortable presenting information one-on-one or in small groups
Flexibility to schedule sessions at times convenient for the family
Interest in cross-cultural learning and supporting newly arrived families
Must complete orientation and background check
