Position: Sorting and Inspecting Donated Food and Non-Food Items
Position Description: Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina strives through education, advocacy, and partnerships to eliminate hunger by the solicitation and distribution of food. We have been in existence since 1981 and provide a regional distribution warehouse and branches that supply food and grocery items to charitable agencies that assist people in need. Our goal is to provide training, technical assistance and hunger education to our partner agencies. Second Harvest covers 24 counties (14 in NC and 10 in SC).
Volunteer Shifts
Sorting & Inspecting
Tuesday – Friday
9-12noon OR
1-4pm
Volunteers age 17 and over, will inspect, sort & pack donated products to be distributed to our partner agencies including homeless shelters, emergency pantries and soup kitchens. Complete project instructions will be given at the beginning of each shift. Volunteers are requested to arrive 10 minutes early to park and sign in. Anyone arriving more than 10 minutes late may be asked to reschedule. Volunteers are requested to stay for the entire shift.
Important information:
Closed-toe shoes are required. You will not be permitted to volunteer in sandals, flip flops or an injury type of foot boot as you will be in our working warehouse.
Please wear comfortable clothing. No controversial wear. During colder days, a light jacket or sweatshirt is best. During warmer months, shorts of a respectful length are permitted.
Earbuds are not permitted for safety reasons.
Standing during the shift is required, bending and light lifting is necessary. All volunteers must be able to perform all tasks on their own
