Position: Summer Internships
Position Description: Special Olympics North Carolina recruits interns to serve in various departments . The time commitment can vary from 10 to 24 hours a week, depending on the internship requirements and event schedule. Internships will include virtual work and some may include some time at our office or at events. All intern positions are on a strictly volunteer basis.

Position: Young Athletes Coach
Position Description: The role of the Young Athletes Coach is to implement the Special Olympics Young Athletes program at an elementary school within Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district. The program may take place once or twice per week for 8 weeks. The Young Athletes Coach has the flexibility to create a schedule that works best for them.
Primary Duties:
Participate in a Young Athletes training led by Special Olympics NC staff. The Young Athletes Curriculum, Activity Guide, and sports equipment kit will be provided to the Coach at training.
Plan for and lead Young Athletes sessions at a designated elementary school.
Collect all participant information including registration forms and assessments in collaboration with the school.
Attend Special Olympics Mecklenburg County Spring Games with Young Athletes if possible.
Other duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION:
The Young Athletes Coach will receive a $500 stipend upon completion of the program.

Position: Unified Track & Field Coach
Position Description: The role of the Unified Track & Field Coach is to coach an interscholastic Unified Track team at a high school within Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district. Special Olympics North Carolina Unified track and field is an interscholastic sport program that combines athletes with and without intellectual disabilities. Through a partnership with the North Carolina High School Association (NCHSAA), Special Olympics North Carolina continues to grow Unified track and field throughout the state.
The Coach has the flexibility to create a practice schedule that works best for them. Track meets and other competition opportunities will be offered throughout the season.
Primary Duties:
v Participate in a Unified Track training led by Special Olympics NC staff. All resources, uniforms, and equipment will be provided to the Coach at/after training.
v Plan for and lead practices at a designated high school.
v Participate in county track meets and other competition opportunities as desired.
v Collect all participant information including registration forms and assessments in collaboration with the school.
v Attend Special Olympics Mecklenburg County Spring Games with team if possible.
v Other duties as assigned.

Position: Inclusive Schools Intern
Position Description:
Reports To: Director of Inclusive Schools with Special Olympics North Carolina
Key Accountabilities:
Reactivate Special Olympics College Club on campus.
Create a plan for on campus Unified Sports programming in collaboration with local program (county) and schools.
Coordinate the logistics for and work at local and statewide Unified events/competitions.
Provide support for the Partner Up Power Up fitness program.
Attend games management team meetings, local committee meetings, and staff meetings to assist with overall planning of Unified Champion Schools events.
Assist with preparations for the annual Spread the Word: Inclusion Rally.
Participate in professional development trainings and opportunities made available through Special Olympics North Carolina.
Update and maintain school contact information.
Adhere to the policies and guidelines of Special Olympics North Carolina.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of computers and system/software programs utilized by Special Olympics North Carolina.
Ability to travel as needed.
Previous experience with Special Olympics preferred.
Preference will be given to freshmen and sophomore students.
Completion of a successful background screening administered by Special Olympics North Carolina.
Work Schedule & Compensation:
Schedule is very flexible and can vary week to week as necessary.
Interns will be paid $1,000 per semester upon completion of goals.

Computer Experience Requirements:
Experience with PC Microsoft Windows and the software programs associated with Windows but not limited to Word, Excel, Access and Power Point.
