This week in math, third-grade students are building their understanding of fractions as equal parts of a whole through visual and hands-on learning. Students are using fraction bars to create number lines from 0 to 1, dividing the whole into equal sections and labeling each part to show different fractions, while also discussing how fractions such as four fourths represent one whole. Throughout the week, students rotate through differentiated centers that include interactive videos, targeted IXL practice, and hands-on work with pattern blocks and Valentine’s Day–themed algebraic expression puzzles. While all students are focusing on foundational fraction concepts, some students are receiving an added challenge by beginning to explore equivalent fractions using visual models and number lines. Formative assessments are used to monitor understanding and guide instruction, ensuring each student is supported and appropriately challenged.

In Social Studies, we will be focusing on the President Research Project. Their Google Slide Presentation is due Wednesday, February 11. Google Slide Outline and Rubric are provided in images. Please see below for more information on the day of the presentations.
Tuesday, February 24 in the Library
Students will come to school dressed as their president. Please use items you already have at home. There is no need to purchase anything special.
Presentations will take place in two sessions, with a short break in between. Thank you to those who have already completed the Google Form to select a session time. Students are not listed in any order.

Students should be very familiar with these slides and aim to present without reading directly from the screen. The slides are meant to serve as a guide.
Students will practice presenting during Social Studies class on Thursday and Friday, February 19 and 20. If needed, we will also practice on Monday, February 23. Please have your child practice presenting to you at home as well.
For Religion, we will begin to discuss Lent and make our Lenten Promises.

2nd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections: Each student is asked to complete two service hours per trimester. Their 2nd Trimester Service Hours and Reflections are due Wednesday, February 11. This will be completed on Google Classroom. Optional: complete log on paper.
Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
