What we are Learning This Week
Math: Mrs. Bennett
This week in fourth-grade math, students are strengthening their division skills by using a variety of strategies to divide larger numbers. The focus is on finding whole-number quotients and remainders when dividing up to three-digit numbers by one-digit divisors, while thinking carefully about the most efficient approach for each problem. During teacher-led instruction, students use graph paper to divide three-digit numbers and practice regrouping, then transition to base-10 blocks to better visualize how and why regrouping works and where each digit belongs. Real-world scenarios are incorporated to help students connect equations to meaningful contexts. Throughout the week, students rotate through differentiated centers that include interactive videos, updated IXL skill plans, and hands-on algebraic thinking activities such as solving for variables and working with basic order of operations. Students reflect on their learning using task card reflection sheets, and formative assessments are used to guide instruction and ensure each group is appropriately supported and challenged based on their level of understanding.

Several schools collect food for low-income students who might not otherwise have food over the weekends. The program is called Blessings in a Backpack. There is a link below that you and your student(s) can sign up for. The volunteers simply walk around to each item putting it in a bag. One location is Alex R. Kennedy Elementary which is close to Ascension.
