Syrphus torvus
Habitat: Ubiquitous
Size: Wing length 7-10mm
Species account: The least frequently recorded of the three common Syrphus species although this is at least partially due to its being overlooked. Both males and females are the only Syrphus species to have hairy eyes, although the hairs are less obvious in the female. Tends to have thinner bands on the abdomen than other Syrphus species.
