Size: Wing length 7-12mm

Species account: The only species in its genus, Myathropa florea is a large and distinctive hoverfly found commonly throughout the UK. The most similar UK species are those in the genus Eristalis, but M.florea is far more brightly marked, and identification is simple with a good view.
