Megachile centuncularis
Habitat: Parks, gardens, and other open spaces
Size: 10mm
Species Account: A small species which is common throughout the UK, although it may have suffered somewhat of a decline recently. Females are distinguished by their entirely orange-red scopae (pollen collecting hairs), which extend past the sides of the abdomen to make a fringe. Males lack the modified front tarsi found in some Megachile species, but can only be distinguished from male M.versicolor by microscopic differences on the underside of the abdomen.
