Common Green Grasshopper - Omocestus viridulus

Habitat: Grassy areas

Size: 14-20mm

Species account: As the name suggests this is a common species, which is usually green in colouration, although males can be olive-brown. Adults are fully winged, but these wings do not extend beyond the end of the abdomen. Unlike several similar species there is never an orange-red tip to the abdomen. The pronotum has gently indented sides. The song has been likened to the sound of a bike freewheeling, being a series of ticks lasting up to twenty seconds
