Eristalinus aeneus

Habitat: Coastal

Size: Wing length 6.5-9.5mm

Species account: Similar looking to the more widespread Eristalinus sepulchralis, but usually somewhat larger and in both sexes the eyes are completely clear of hairs in the lower half. Males are further distinguished by having the eyes touching, whereas they are slightly separated in sepulchralis. The abdomen in both sexes is entirely glossy, lacking the dull patch of sepulchralis. Almost entirely coastal, the larvae have been found feeding on seaweed.
