COVID Tech Reflections

Thank you to everyone that took a moment to complete the COVID Technology Reflections survey I sent out a few weeks ago. The information will be helpful in determining what beneficial resources from our COVID response should be kept around and what should be kicked out the door with COVID. There was also good information to help support teachers and students more going forward. Here's a short summary of the responses. If you feel like something is missing or wasn't covered please contact me or fill out the COVID Technology Reflections form.

Hardware Resources

Student Chromebooks, Document Cameras, and a second monitor were almost unanimously loved

Headsets were necessary for teaching remotely

Bluetooth speakers and Interactive Panels/SmartBoards were necessary for teaching live during hybrid learning

Note, that these were also hardware resources that teachers found less useful because they didn't know how to use them or weren't familiar with them.

Website and Software Resources

Google Classroom, Screencastify, Google Meet, and Google Tools were almost unanimously loved

Kami, Boom Cards, and SeeSaw were also very valuable with TPT, Lexia, and Raz-Kids also being useful.

Some of the above resources would have been utilized more if there was additional PD or bandwidth to absorb additional PD

Technology Integration Practices

Google Classroom and Bitmoji Classroom were helpful hubs for learning but finding a place for them other than as a repository for links and resources might be difficult.

Virtual meetings were useful for Open House, Conferences, Special Education, and Team Meetings. Recorded lessons could be useful for when a sub is in. Otherwise, virtual teaching and virtual class meetings should be left behind.

Getting younger student's logged in efficiently is difficult.

Areas for PD and Additional Thoughts

PD for Kami and SeeSaw as well as how to create students that can independently learn with technology at home or in school to use a Chromebook and Google Meet or Google Classroom.

This experience has made it easier to "flip the classroom" as necessary in the future.

Younger students can be successful technology users with patience, training, and repetition.

Great support /collaboration with peers from sharing/introducing resources, brainstorming, and making the adjustments successful.

Continue to improve student typing skills.

Tech support responding to problems with devices or resources was quick and thorough.

The Tech Department can do a better job of consistently providing new resources and create specific opportunities for teacher collaboration around sharing new resources as well.

Thank you again for your reflections! After looking through the summary feel free to contact me or use the same COVID Technology Reflections form if you have things you'd like to add or additional thoughts to share.
