I really enjoy the opportunities I have to walk around our schools and observe all of the exciting learning that takes place inside our school walls. It is exciting for me to see the different learning experiences being created in each of the classrooms. Even though there are many commonalities in curriculum, books, and resources used in classrooms there is still diversity in how those thoughts get to students, how they process those thoughts, and how they create new thoughts. This is absolutely a testament to you as such high-caliber teachers and staff that create these learning experiences for our students every day.
Since we have so many great things happening in our district, it is important to have the opportunity to share them with not only each other but also with colleagues from other districts as well. I find one of the most meaningful ways I have experienced PD over the years is to deliver PD to a group of teachers. It provides me the chance to share the learning strategies and tools I am using with other people and then open a dialogue with about them with the group that enriches not only the practice of the group but also myself as I deliver the PD and lead the discussion.
If you are thinking about something you would like to share or have been wondering if you might do a good job, there is an exciting opportunity for you ahead!
During our scheduled PD Day on Tuesday, January 16th the school districts of Norfolk and Plainville will be coming together with us here in Wrentham to offer Professional Development workshops relating to technology integration and innovative learning experiences. Since many of you do this well, we are asking teachers and staff to submit workshop proposals they would like to share with others. Your participation as a workshop leader or co-leader is necessary to make this a success. The expectation is that each workshop will introduce the concept or technology, provide examples of how it is utilized, and then brainstorm with workshop attendees how it applies to their learning environments. Each attendee should leave the workshop with at least one actionable item. The workshops will run for 30 or 60 minutes. Norfolk will be hosting the AM workshops and Wrentham will be hosting the PM workshops. Teachers and staff from all schools are being invited to present and will be welcome at both AM and PM locations.
Please click here to submit your workshop proposal(s)! This form also has a link to a pretty vast list of potential topics to help you gauge what we're looking for. Proposals are going to be due 11/10/17. A schedule of workshops and specific details will be shared out by mid-December.
Some details specific to us in Wrentham:
- Grade levels will likely have half of the day dedicated to curriculum work and half of the day dedicated to these technology workshops.
- We will definitely work with your current schedule for the 1/16/18 PD Day to help you lead or attend workshops you want.
If you have any questions or would like assistance brainstorming, I am more than happy to help. I hope you'll consider venturing out and sharing some of what you do in your class!!!
